Alpacas

There are great benefits to owning alpacas, other than just the fiber. People have found alpacas to be very peaceful, almost magical creatures, which require relatively little care, are easy on the land and fencing, keep grasses down for fire safety and weed control, are safe around young children and make a great business for the whole family to participate in.

Alpaca
Camels, llamas and alpacas are classified as camelids. Alpacas are much smaller than llamas and are raised for their fleece, where llamas are also used for packing due to their size. Alpacas require much less food than most animals of their size. They generally eat hay or grasses. They weigh from 110 to 165 lbs. They are gentle animals to people and the land, Unlike horses, goats, etc. they do not challenge or tear fencing down. We even have a bench in one or our pastures to just sit and enjoy being with them. You can't do that with horses or cattle. Their life span can be up to 20 years. They are shorn once a year. If you don't use the fiber yourself there are always spinners/artists that will buy it from you.

We do have fleece for sale, along with alpaca products.
